Birthday Card - Lois

This is the card I made for 1 of the girls I work with for her 21st Birthday.  I used a template from Tracey Grundy from when I attending a cardmaking class at Papercuts Whitley Bay.
I am sure the paper I used on this card was made by Paper Hearts.
I also decorated a plain white paper bag to put the card in using Banana Frog stamnps and patterned papers.

I really enjoyed making this and card and using the template again.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my blog.

My Top 10 Tips for Scrapbooking Inspiration

My Top 10 Tips for Scrapbook Inspiration

How many times have you had a creative block?  Unfortunatley it happens to us all ...for a variety of reasons, but don't be to concerned as there is lots of inspiration out there to be had.  Here are a few of my ideas.

1. Photos

My first 'port of call' for inspiration is in my photographs.  I sit with my photograph in front of me with a notepad close at hand and note down any thoughts that come mind.  Take the following photograph for example:
The words that come to mind for this photo are: bubbles, fun, colourful, laughter, joy, cheeky, focus.  Once I have these words to inspire, I can use them for the title for the layout, the story behind the photograph.  I would also use the words to inspire the colours I choose (in this case I would probably use brights).

-------------

2. Challenge Websites (includes challenge sites, colour challenge sites & sketch challenge sites)

I use challenge websites regularly often in conjunction with each other as this helps me to scrap more quickly and effectively.  See some of my previous posts.  The following are a few sites I use:

This sites provides a palette of 5 colours for you to use in your layout (every week) - It also provides a list of other products/techniques to use alongside the palette.  I love using this site and also gain inspiration from the examples the design team put together.

Much the same as the previous site it provides a palette to use to in your layout.  It also provides a sketch for you to use alongside if you wish.

Sketch Challenges

All of the following provide regular sketches to use as inspiration - you can also upload your layout (if within specified time) to win products or sometimes be featured as a guest designer for the site in the future.

I have a list of sketch sites to share with you - please contact me if you would like links to more sites.

Challenge Sites

Scrap it with a Song  I'm on the design team :)

This sites provides a song every week for you to use as inspiration for your layout - either as a title, subtitle or whatever.  I find this site brilliant for getting my creative juices flowing and have used it for quite some time (long before I was asked to be on the design team)

A site that inspires you using items from a childs environment - ie, current challenge is a book challenge - The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

A space on the web to help bring out your rebellious side and to try something new.  I think this site just inspires you to 'let loose and create' - check it out!

Again - I have lots of challenge sites bookmarked if you need any more, I can send you an email with the links on.

-------------

Magazines

I often flick through magazines as the adverts are great to get ideas from.  Just flick through and see what you can find.

The photo below inspires me in several ways:

1.  The colour combination.
2. the arrangement of the products being advertised.
3. The arrangement of the title, logo and products.
 4.  How the products in square boxes are then complimented by the curvyness/roundness of the other elements on the page.
-------------

Lolly Sticks

I bought a big pack of big lolly sticks and on some I have wrote lots of different products names, i.e. Brads, Foam shapes, glitter, etc.  On the others I have wrote lots of different techniques - i.e. sanding, die cutting, embossing, etc.  I then decide how many I am going to choose of each and then 'blindly' pick some out of each pot.  I then use these to create my layout!

------------

Online Galleries

Check out online galleries

Specific ones such as Scrapbook Challenges

Or check out Photobucket, Flickr or Pinterest
then search scrapbook, scrapbooking, crafting or similar.

-------------

Scraplift Your Own Layouts

Check through some of your layouts and be inspired by yourself!!!  How awesome is that!
I occasionally check through some of my layouts and find ones I particulary like and challenge myself to use them as a 'jumping off' point!

-------------

Speed Scrap

Like a lot of scrappers out there I have 'lots and lots' of scrapbooking goodies, which is great, but sometimes having so much can be off putting as you just don't know where to start.    I challenge myself to speed scrap by deciding to pick 1 item from each of the different storage tubs I have up to a pre-specified amount! Then that's it - I have to use what I have in front of me to put the layout together.  Sometimes 'less is more!'

-------------

Try Out a New Technique

Have you been wanting to try out  a new technique for a while?  Just jump in and have a try.  If it doesn't work out 1st time then try again.  As they used to say 'If at first you don't succeed, try and try and try again.  Have fun with it!!!

-------------

You Tube!!!

Check out tutorials on You Tube.

You would not believe the amount of crafty tutorials there are on YouTube, from well known designers to amateurs.

-------------

Back to Basics

I sometimes go 'back to basics' and challenge myself to put together a layout using only pens, papers, scissors, like we would have had to do before we had all those wonderful shops to buy all those scrapbooking goodies from.

You will be amazed at what you can produce!!

Hope you have found this helpful.  If you have please let me know.

If you have anything you think others would like to know - please make a comment and I will update the post.

Whisper & Hush

Scrap It with a Song are celebrating St Patrick's Day all month with a great selection of songs by Irish artists to get you inspired.  This week is Van Morrison's - Moondance.

I was inspired by the lyrics 'whisper and hush'

This layout about my grandson just had to be done.

One morning just as my husband was leaving for work our grandson work up and he put him in the bed with me. He was put in my husbands half of the bed, but when I woke up a little while later he was in this cute pose and had managed to wriggle his way smack bang in the middle of the bed leaving me with a little bit of space - little monkey.

I could not resist grabbing my phone and taking a quick snap!

I used a sketch from Stuck Sketches as shown below

along with the current colour challenge from Colours Stories Inspiration shown below.

I used the items hightlighted!

EVIDENCE DETAILS
  • Choose two (or more) of the following elements to include on your layout:
  • cloud accents                                     (strip of paper on right & journaling spot)
  • fabric (actual fabric or fabric paper), as inspired by the dress                 (for flower)
  • metal, as inspired by the lantern
  • glass or glass-like elements, as inspired by the lantern
  • create light and shadow (interpret that any way you wish)
  • use contrasting textures
JOURNALING DETAILS (TESTIMONY)
Choose one (or more)of the following to inspire your journaling:
  • Document a story about motherhood.
  • Compare two people/things/events, etc. using contrasting (i.e., listing the differences)--this is inspired by the many contrasts in this image.
  • Shed light on your subject--i.e., provide more insight than is obvious from the photo.  (on journalling spot)
  • Inspiration words: light, hope, open -- Use these as a jumping-off point for your journaling.
I used the following supplies:

Echo Park - Everybody loves Christmas (Bella Road) - Scallop Stripes
Bazzill Basics Stripes
Fancy Pants - Kraft Kuts - Princess Sky
Sassafras Cardstock Stickers - Sunshine Lollipop
Papermania Boofle Fabric Paper (fabric removed from backing)
Echo Park - Life is Good - Element Stickers
Sassafras Lass - Robotics stickers
Stabilo Bionic Black Pen
Echo Park - Dots & Stripes - Bunting
Echo Park - Life is Good - Alpha stickers
Scenic Route Paper Co - Small Random Craft Alphabet - Ampersand
Signo Pigment Ink Pen - White

Hope you enjoy this layout and remember....

A day without Scrapping is like a day without sunshine!!

Celluloid Moments

This is yet another layout about my grandson (he is such a good subject)

I printed the teeny photos a while back and when I saw them again I was inspired to line them up 'like in a negative' and the layout just developed from there

I used a colour prompt from Colour Stories Inspiration found here.  Or you can view the details below.
I used the items highlighted.

EVIDENCE DETAILS
Choose two (or more)of the following elements to include on your layout:
  • text pattern (patterned paper or some other element, e.g., letter stickers, with a text print)
  • striped pattern (patterned paper or other element that contains stripes)
  • dictionary page (yep--tear a page out of an old dictionary)
  • definition stickers (stickers that have words with definitions--these used to be really popular a while back--Making Memories had them)
  • bird accent
  • hot-air balloon accent
  • mesh
  • Use something translucent so that the background can show through
JOURNALING DETAILS (TESTIMONY)
Choose one (or more)of the following to inspire your journaling:
  • Journal as a definition.
  • Document a journey.
  • Write a six-word memoir (see http://www.smithmag.net/sixwords/ for examples)--This is really fun!
  • Use a line or phrase from the song Wind Beneath My Wings and use that as a jumping-off point for your journaling - lyrics here: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/bettemidler/windbeneathmywings.html
  • Inspiration Words: wing, roam, surround -- Inspiration Words are meant as jumping off points for your journaling--not just titles (though you certainly can use these as your title; just please also have a story of some sort for your page).

I used my own sketch (see below) - which was very crudely drawn in the car on the way back from dropping my grandson back home.  Drawing isn't my strong suit as you can probably tell!

I used these supplies:

Glitz Teeny Alphas - Bubblegum pink
Brenda Pinnick Paper (background)
Making Memories Chipboard Tag - Just Chillin No: 31842
Turquoise Core'dinations cardstock (circle frame)
Black Core'dinations Cardstock (negative frame)
Pink Paislee/House of Three - Daily Junque paper (bird & a little bird told me)
Narrow white ric rac
Grey papermania cardstock
MME La Paperie (Jen Wilson) Dots paper (for flower)
Elsie Paper - Zoe Click Click
Fancy Pants - Kraft Kuts Stickers - Blues Alphas
Old Dictionary Page
Blue ink pad

Hope you enjoy this layout and remember...

A day without scrapping is like a day without sunshine!!!

Thomas & Friends Birthday Card for my grandson Jacob

This is the birthday card I made for grandson.  Like most 3 year old boys he is mad on Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.  My husband found me some fun templates at DLTK (Thanks to them).
I used a template to make the card blank which I learnt to do at at cardmaking class with Papercuts.

He really loved his card and kept picking it up and saying the names of the different engines, so my effort was definately worthwhile.

Life in Cartoon

This is a layout I have done for the True Xo Xo Scrapbooking design team submission.  I am sorry for the photos, but it seems that however I try to photograph them they come out too dark or two light and I cannot find any middle ground, grr.

For the DT submisson I had to show how I was inspired by or scraplifting any of the DT layouts used in challenge 27 on True Xo Xo Scrapbooking . So to I had to consider colour, design, subject or wording.

This is the layout I chose to scraplift which is by

The aspects of Tiffany's layout that inspired me where the bright, fun and funky colours she used and I tried to incorporate this is my own layout and the hand written title alongside shop bought alphas.   I also love the grid format and the random embellishments across the layout.

Take a look at her fantastic blog by clicking on her name above or her layout below!

I chose to scraplift this layout as it was a simple, interesting but graphic, which is not the style I normally go for.  I also chose to use Kraft cardstock (like Tiffany) as I knew I was going to using bright photographs.

I discovered a programme called Cartoonize which lets you import your photograph and converts it into a 'cartoon like' photograph.  I converted 3 photographs to use on this layout and chose to print them on canvas to give them a 'fabric like' look.

I used new products from the Papermania Boofle range such as clear stamps and the self adhesive fabric.  I stamped the Boffle image but decided not to colour it in as I think it represents cartoons when they have 1st been drawn.

I used:

Sugarloaf Strokes Black Pen
Sakura Gelly Roll - Fl Green
Sakura Glaze - Black
Design Objectives- Boofle Stamp
Design Objectives - 12 x 12 Self Adhesive Fabric
American Crafts Foam Shapes
Making Memories - Just Chillin' Canvas Alphas
Ranger Liquid Pearls - Ruby Red
Papermania Kraft Cardstock

I really enjoyed putting this layout together.

Thanks for looking and remember .......

A day without scrapping is like a day without sunshine!

Recreating a Moment

I have created this layout to use as an example for a basic scrapbooking class I am going to be teaching for my local craft shop Papercuts Whitley Bay.

I used a colour prompt from site The Colour Room #100. (see below)

I also scraplifted the following layout by Amanda Jones which was printed in Issue 1 of Scrap 365.

While on holiday in the Lake District my husband and myself climbed a few Wainwrights (hills of the lakes) one of which is called Binsey.

We had the Wainwright book - Northern Fells with us when we were doing the walk and my hubby noticed a drawing in it which he decided to recreate at the summit.  This is the photo I have scrapped.  I scanned in the page of the book which showed the pose my hubby has recreated and used this in my layout too.

I used the following components:

Best Creation Inc - Basic Glitter Paper (colours BGP223 - Brown & BGP217 Blue) from Papercuts
Glitz Designs Teeny Alpha - Burnt Orange
American Crafts - Giggles - Brown
Twill Tape - Bootprints
Scan of Northern Fells - Page Binsey 7
Dulux paint strip
Brown Acrylic Paint
Sassafrass Lass - Amplify - Ziggy
Chipboard Accent
Paper Flowers - from Papercuts
Stabilo Bionic Pen - Black

I hop you enjoy my layout and remember ....a day without sunshine is like a day without scrapbooking!!

This is a birthday I made for a friend at work.  It didn't take long to put together but I was really pleased with the end result and the recipient loved it.

I used: Kanban - Chelsea Collection - Carte Postale Paris
Kanban Transparency Gold - Not sure what design it is
American Crafts - Pink Glitter - Jewellery Box
           Holographic Butterfly
           Unknown Alphas
Envelope from Papercrafts - Whitley Bay - Don't know which brand.

I also used adhesive magnets to ensure the envelope stayed shut and make it look smart.

Hope you all like it.
